This course is a portal to connect your love of art and adventure. We will journey to exciting destinations by way of art. The lessons offer you deep research on Mexico and will take you through eight art modules where you explore the beauty of the country through art. Each module is packed with art lessons to further your art journey.

We will approach new locations with open eyes and hearts. Will you join me?

MODULE 01:

Color Palettes & Vision Boards

We will gather inspiration, make vision boards both digitally and on our walls or journals. From our research, we will discuss color theory and how to select a color palette based on a country.

MODULE 02:

Mini Abstract Studies

We will warm up with abstract studies based on our color palettes. These minis will be added to our embellished “nichos” or mini shrines to honor our creativity and use as a reference throughout the course.

MODULE 03:

Art Journal Lessons

We will explore two different art journal lessons inspired by Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead and Frida Kahlo’s diary. Each lesson wil explore the culture of Mexico and offer you new techniques to use in your art practice.

MODULE 04:

Flora & Fauna

We will discover the local flora and fauna of Mexico and practice drawings in our journals.We will discuss the local flowers in Mexico and travel to Oaxaca to learn more about wood sculptures called alebrijes and spirit animals.

MODULE 05:

Landscape & Architecture

Through this module we dive into how each city or region has its own identity and culture. We will explore the differences in our journals and paintings.

MODULE 06:

Portrait Lessons

We will practice with two warm up techniques. We will look to the ancestors of Mexico for inspiration for our acrylic portrait on wood panel.

MODULE 07: Abstracts

We will explore what aspects of the Mexican culture have had the greatest impact on you. We will take that passion and create large abstracts. Discuss textiles, colors, and other influences that can help inspire an abstract painting.
